RIMINI

City old and new, Rimini, the capital of the newly created province with the same name, offers, summing it up, monuments of a great past together with a modern tourist organization. A perfect holiday destination for those who want to pass from a relaxing day at the beach, to entertainment in a night club, to visiting the art treasures from the past.

Rimini was founded by the Romans in 268 BC as a colony under Latin law, and a strategic hub and meeting point of trade. In 90 BC it became a "Municipio" .The Middle Ages saw it as a protagonist of it's own destiny as a free commune. Towards the end of the thirteenth century. it became the home of the Malatesta , which transformed Rimini into a hotbed of culture and art. This is, in broad terms, the town's history well documented by renowned relics such as the Arch of Augustus, Tiberius Bridge and the Malatesta Temple.

On July 30, 1843, another milestone for the understanding of Rimini today takes place, the Privileged Bathing Establishment was inaugurated and would be followed, some 50 years later, by the Kursaal and the Grand Hotel.
That's how the Ostend of Italy was born, set to be transformed, with the tourism boom of the years 60-70, into the seaside metropolis par excellence,and the European capital of holidays. The city has two hearts : the old town, with its villages, and the marina, 15 km. of Beach divided into 10 fractions ( starting from north :Torre Pedrera, Viserba, Viserbella, Rivabella, San Giuliano, Marina Centro, Bellariva, Marabello, Rivazzurra and Miramare), each with it's own traditions and celebrations. Rimini, besides the development and birth of new touristic destinations, also boasts many records that make it one of the most welknown and appreciated vacation destinations in Europe.
